Shinagawa Historical Museum

Introduction

The museum opened in 1985 with the aim of preserving the culture and history of Shinagawa. The model in the permanent exhibit is a reproduction of Shinagawa-shuku which flourished as the first stop of the Tokaido Road.

Cultural property commentary

A museum where you can see the history of Shinagawa Ward. In the Japanese style garden there is a tea room "Matsudoran", various trees, water crocuses which can also enjoy the sound of water.

On the site of the Shinagawa History Museum, there was once the home of Mr. Zensuke Yasuda. After the war, it was used as a tea ceremony by Hideo Yoshida Memorial Hall (owned by Dentsu Inc.). The tea room “Matsushiroen” is a tea room with two tatami mats, with two buildings connected by a diagonal corridor. Based on Oda Yuraku's “Yachiga Hentatami”, the space is given space by the middle plate. There is a wall on the side of the “cave floor” that expands as it goes deeper like a cave, and it has been devised different from traditional ones.
