Introduction
During the Meiji Era, a factory was built one after another along the Meguro River (present Nankinagawa) and played a major role in the development of modern industries in Japan. Comprehensive paint manufacturer Nippon Paint Shinagawa Building of red brick located in one corner of the head office was once Japan's oldest oil · varnish factory. The factory built in 1909 (Meiji 42) is the oldest western style building in existing Shinagawa Ward.
Meiji Paint In the Showa era (1981) of 100 years since its foundation, it was named "Meiji Memorial Museum" and it is open to the public as a museum. The interior displays machinery and related documents used for paint production in the Meiji era. You can see the progress of the development of the paint industry in Japan. Although the tour is free, reservation in advance is necessary.
Historical and attractive buildings
Western style building with the oldest red brick structure existing in Shinagawa Ward which was constructed as Japan's oldest oil · varnish factory in 1909. Materials that convey the progress of the paint industry are displayed in the memorial hall. Along with the texture of the red bricks, the story of businessmen are attractively communicated.
